I am a proud volunteer with North East London Community Engagement (NELCE) and with the London InterCommunity Health Centre. As a group we help the community when and where they need us.
Although my volunteer activities require various skills, I feel that I have two very different niches. For one thing, I am a kitchen coordinator. I help to organize the cooking and serving of food at various community meals. I also organize cooking education programs for community members who want to learn basic cooking skills.
Secondly, I organize and teach line dancing sessions at Beacock Public Library and the Kensington Village Retirement Home. Line dancing is a fun way to socialize and exercise and is quite popular with seniors in the community.
Volunteering gives me a purpose in life. It makes me feel alive. I'm retired. I am a sister, I am a mother and I am a grandmother. When I am volunteering, I am Suzzie.
